Ocean City, MD - The National Weather Service in Wakefield, Virginia, has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Town of Ocean City. A major winter storm is forecast to impact the region beginning Saturday evening, January 23, 2026. Hazardous weather conditions are expected to persist through Sunday night and into early Monday morning.

Current forecasts indicate that precipitation will start as snow on Saturday evening before intensifying overnight. The weather pattern is expected to transition to sleet and freezing rain, followed by rain on Sunday. Temperatures are predicted to shift from the 20s to the high 30s. This fluctuation will likely allow snow and ice to accumulate on all surfaces.

Accumulations of snow and sleet could reach up to 6 inches in Ocean City. However, ice accumulation is cited as a primary concern as the storm progresses.

The National Weather Service advises that travel may become extremely dangerous or nearly impossible, particularly on Sunday, due to icy roadways and bridges.

Strong winds following the precipitation may increase the risk of downed trees and power outages. Bitterly cold temperatures are expected to slow the melting process, which could cause storm impacts to linger into next week.

The Town of Ocean City urges residents, businesses, and visitors to take the storm seriously and begin preparations immediately.

Residents are advised to stock emergency supplies such as food, water, medications, flashlights, and batteries before the storm hits. Vehicles should be prepared with fuel, windshield washer fluid, and emergency kits. Mobile devices and backup batteries should be fully charged.

During the storm, individuals are strongly encouraged to avoid travel if possible and stay off roads during periods of snow and ice. Residents should monitor weather updates and official Town communications. Heating devices must be used safely, and generators or grills should never be used indoors.

After the storm passes, caution is advised regarding icy roads and sidewalks. Residents should watch for downed power lines and report any outages to their utility provider.

Checking on neighbors, especially seniors or those with special needs, is also recommended.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to stay informed as forecasts are subject to change. The Town of Ocean City will continue to share updates as conditions evolve.
