Wicomico County, MD - On October 24, 2026, at approximately 5:35 p.m., the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 6000 block of Hunters Mill Drive, Salisbury, MD for a house fire. A man now faces several charges, including arson, after investigators say the fire was set on purpose.

About 40 firefighters worked the fire on a single alarm. Crews had the flames under control in about 30 minutes.

Five cats were inside the house when the fire started. Once the fire was out, all five were found alive and safe.

Fire officials estimate the damage at about $175,000. That includes $150,000 to the house and $25,000 to the belongings inside.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal for the Lower Eastern Shore region looked into what caused the fire. Investigators ruled that it was set on purpose. The original dispatch stated that a man was pouring gasoline around the house and when first responders arrived, they found the house was on fire.

Deputy State Fire Marshals have charged Michael Satterfield in connection with the fire.

The charges include five counts of animal cruelty. He is also charged with intoxicated endangerment and reckless endangerment.

Satterfield went before a District Court Commissioner after he was charged. The commissioner ordered him held without bond.
