Boat Fire Damages Skiff on Hoopers Island Road

Dorchester County, MD - On September 16, 2026, at approximately 6:04 a.m., the Hoopers Island Volunteer Fire Company responded to the 2700 block of Hoopers Island Road in Church Creek for a boat fire.

The boat, a 24 foot Carolina Skiff, was found burning by a passerby who noticed the fire and called it in.

Fire crews arrived and got the fire under control within 15 minutes.

Fifteen firefighters responded to the scene for the single alarm call.

The fire is believed to have started in the boat's console area. Officials say the preliminary cause was accidental, caused by an electrical event.

Damage to the boat is estimated at $20,000. Contents on board were valued at an additional $5,000 in losses.
