Cambridge Man Arrested for Violating Protection Order
Cambridge, MD - A Cambridge man was arrested early Monday morning after police say he tried to break into the home of someone who had a court order of protection against him.
Cambridge Police Department officers were called to the 100 block of Hayward Street at around 12:44 a.m. on May 18, 2026. The call came in after a subject was reported to be kicking a door and trying to force his way into the home.
When officers arrived, they spotted a man walking away from the property. They stopped and identified him as Debracy Avonte Wheatley, 33, of Cambridge.
Officers then spoke with the victim and learned that a Final Protection Order was already in place against Wheatley. That order legally prohibited him from being at the residence.
A closer look at the property told its own story. Officers found that a front storm door to the porch had been forced open, and the house door had visible kick marks on it.
Investigators then compared the tread on Wheatley's shoes to the shoe prints left on the door. The patterns matched.
Wheatley was taken into custody and later transferred to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections. He was held on No Bond.
He faces the following charges: Violate Final Protection Order, Burglary in the Third Degree, Burglary in the Fourth Degree, Attempted Third Degree Burglary, Attempted Fourth Degree Burglary, Malicious Destruction of Property Less Than $1,000, Trespass on Posted Property, and Intoxicated Endangerment.
