Cambridge Man Assaulted in His Own Apartment, Suspect Arrested Days Later
Cambridge, MD - A Cambridge woman is facing serious charges after police say she attacked a man inside his own apartment, leaving him with head injuries serious enough to require a hospital visit. On April 13, 2026, at around 8:37 p.m., Cambridge Police Department officers responded to the 500 block of Muir Street after reports of an assault. When they arrived, they found a male victim in the hallway, unresponsive, with visible injuries to his head. The victim told officers that Toi Courtney Joynes, 41, of Cambridge, Maryland, had assaulted him while he was inside his apartment. He said Joynes struck him in the head with a bottle. Officers found a damaged soda can at the scene that appeared to have been used in the attack. Because of his injuries, the victim was transported to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Hospital in Salisbury, Maryland for treatment. Following the investigation, officers completed an application of charges against Joynes. A Court Commissioner reviewed the case and issued an arrest warrant. Three days later, on April 16, 2026, Cambridge Police Department officers located Joynes at the intersection of Race Street and Cedar Street at approximately 7:18 p.m. She was arrested on the active Dorchester County District Court warrant without incident. Joynes was then turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections and is being held on no bond. She is currently facing the following charges: First Degree Assault Second Degree Assault Reckless Endangerment Disorderly Conduct This incident is a reminder that violence can happen anywhere, even inside someone's own home where they should feel the most safe.
