Cambridge, MD - A Cambridge man is facing serious assault charges after police say he held a butcher knife to a victim's throat during an argument inside a home on High Street.

On April 24, 2026, at approximately 7:53 p.m., Cambridge Police Department officers were called to the 700 block of High Street in response to an assault. When officers arrived, they spoke with the victim about what had taken place inside the home.

According to the victim, an argument broke out between them and 33-year-old Jaqon Donbrae Davis Sr., of Cambridge, while the two were sitting on a couch. The victim said they hit Davis with a pillow during the dispute. That's when things took a dangerous turn.

Davis reportedly walked to the kitchen, grabbed a butcher knife, and returned to the same room. When the victim tried to leave, police say Davis came up from behind and placed the knife against their throat, making a slicing motion. The victim suffered a superficial cut to the neck as a result.

The victim managed to escape the home and ran to a neighbor's house to get help. By the time officers arrived, Davis was no longer at the residence.

Officers applied for charges through the Court Commissioner, and an arrest warrant was issued for Davis. The case didn't end there, though.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. that same night, CPD officers were called back to the residence after Davis was reported to be back on the property. Officers were told he was somewhere in the home, in an upstairs bedroom.

When officers searched the room, they found Davis hiding underneath the bed. He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to CPD for processing.

During the arrest, officers also discovered that Davis had an outstanding Dorchester County Circuit Court Bench Warrant for Failure to Appear. He was held on no bond and later turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections.

Davis was charged with the following:

  • Assault 1st Degree
  • Assault 2nd Degree
  • Dangerous Weapon with Intent to Injure

This case serves as a reminder that incidents of domestic violence can escalate quickly and without warning. If you or someone you know is in an unsafe situation, please contact local authorities or a crisis resource for help.
