Cambridge Man Charged After Wrong-Way Crash on Route 13 Sends Multiple People To Hospital Including MD State Trooper

Wicomico County, MD - On Saturday, September 5, 2026 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Maryland State Police responded to the Salisbury Bypass, U.S. Route 13, near the Johnson Road overpass, for reports of a pickup truck driving north in the southbound lanes.

A trooper found the truck and tried to stop it. The truck nearly hit his patrol car and kept going north.

The trooper followed and tried again to make a stop. The truck did not pull over and kept fleeing north.

A second trooper responded to the area of U.S. Route 13 at Route 50. He saw several cars stopped on the shoulder with people standing nearby.

Worried for the safety of those drivers and pedestrians, the trooper moved his patrol car into the path of the oncoming truck. The driver tried to go around him, but the trooper was able to take the impact.

The crash caused the truck to spin and hit a Ford Expedition. The truck came to a stop and could not be driven again.

The driver of the truck was identified as Joshua Jorette, 36, of Cambridge, Maryland. He was arrested at the scene.

Jorette is charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and other related charges. He is being held at the Wicomico County Detention Center.

The trooper who was struck is assigned to the Salisbury Barrack. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and has since been released.

A 66-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman were riding in the Ford Expedition. Both were taken to a local hospital by ambulance.
