Cambridge Man Charged With Assault at Hospital Center

Cambridge, MD - On Sunday, October 4, 2026, at approximately 4:10 p.m., officers with the Cambridge Police Department served a criminal summons on a Cambridge man.

The man was identified as Brian Vargas, 31, of Cambridge, Maryland. He is charged with Second Degree Assault.

The charge goes back to an incident about a month earlier. Police said it happened on or around Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

The incident took place at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center, 5600 block of Woods Road, Cambridge, Maryland.

According to police, it was reported that Vargas struck the victim on the cheek.

The victim went to a District Court Commissioner and applied for charges against Vargas. A commissioner looks at the facts of a complaint and decides if charges should be filed.

That step led to the criminal summons served on October 4, 2026.

In Maryland, Second Degree Assault can cover a range of actions, including hitting or touching someone in a harmful way.
