Cambridge Man Charged with Drug Possession After Officers Spot Him Near Trespassing Call
Cambridge, MD - A Cambridge man found himself facing drug charges last week after a chance encounter with police led to the discovery of a crack cocaine pipe.
On April 16, 2026, just before noon, Cambridge Police Department officers were on their way to the 400 block of Race Street to handle a trespassing complaint. While heading to the scene, officers spotted a man on High Street at Locust Street who matched the description they had been given. They stopped to make contact with him.
The man was identified as Rudell Askin, 68, of Cambridge, Maryland. During the interaction, Askin dropped a smoking device on the ground that officers recognized as being used for crack cocaine. The pipe had drug residue on it.
Askin was issued criminal citations and released at the scene. He was charged with CDS Possession Not Cannabis and CDS Possession Paraphernalia.
The charges Askin faces are related to controlled dangerous substance laws in Maryland. Possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance other than cannabis are both criminal offenses in the state.
