Cambridge Resident Charged in Walmart Self-Checkout Thefts
Cambridge, MD - On Sunday, October 4, 2026, at approximately 4:40 p.m., officers with the Cambridge Police Department served a criminal summons on a Cambridge resident.
The person was identified as Briahyana Miller, 38, of Cambridge, Maryland. Miller is facing five theft charges tied to money that went missing from self-checkout machines at Walmart in Cambridge, MD.
A criminal summons is a court order that tells a person they have been charged and must appear in court. It is used instead of an arrest in some cases.
The case started inside the store, not with the police. Walmart Asset Protection Officers, who work to stop theft at the store, looked into the missing money first.
According to police, Asset Protection Officers saw Miller putting money in a pocket instead of loading it into a self-checkout machine. That money was supposed to go into the machine.
Police said this did not happen just once. It happened on several different days, starting on August 9, 2026, and going through August 21, 2026.
The case was then passed to the Cambridge Police Department. That led to the criminal summons served on October 4.
Miller is charged with one count of Theft Scheme $100 to Under $1,500. A theft scheme charge is used when several thefts are believed to be part of one plan, and the amounts can be added together.
Miller is also charged with three counts of Theft $100 to Under $1,500. There is one more charge of Theft Less Than $100.
