Cambridge, MD - A Cambridge woman is facing criminal charges after police say she threatened to assault a juvenile who was already in police custody.

On April 24, 2026, Cambridge Police Department officers served a Criminal Summons on Katrina Denise Ferrell, 51, of Cambridge, Maryland. Ferrell was charged with Obstructing and Hindering and Disorderly Conduct.

The charges stem from an incident that took place in the early morning hours of April 18, 2026. CPD officers were called to the 600 block of Greenwood Avenue around 12:22 a.m. to assist Altair Apartments security with loitering complaints.

While on scene, officers heard a disturbance and observed a juvenile female involved in a fight.

The juvenile was placed under arrest and was being walked to a patrol vehicle when an argument broke out between her and Ferrell. During that exchange, the juvenile spit on Ferrell.

Officers secured the juvenile in the patrol car, but the situation did not end there. According to police, Ferrell approached from behind the officers while the car door was still open and began making statements about wanting to assault the juvenile female. At that moment, the juvenile spit on the officer as well.

Officers shut the patrol car door once the juvenile was secured inside. However, Ferrell reportedly stayed near the vehicle, yelling at officers to open the door. Police say she also stated that she intended to open the patrol car door herself and assault the juvenile.

Officers instructed Ferrell to back away from the vehicle. Instead of complying, she became agitated and continued yelling at officers, causing a disturbance in the area.

Because officers were already managing an arrest involving a juvenile, they chose to pursue charges through the court commissioner rather than making an additional arrest on the scene. The Criminal Summons was served six days later on April 24.

Ferrell now faces the two criminal charges as a result of her actions that morning.

This incident serves as a reminder that interfering with law enforcement during an arrest, or making threats toward someone in police custody, can result in criminal charges regardless of the circumstances that led to the confrontation.
