Cambridge, MD - The Cambridge Police Department is asking residents to pay attention after a rise in vehicle-related crimes on the east side of the city throughout May 2026.

Officers have responded to multiple reports of suspicious people looking into parked cars, damage to vehicles, attempted thefts, and actual stolen vehicles. The activity has been concentrated in several neighborhoods, including Deep Harbor, Byrn Street, Meteor Avenue, Crusader Avenue, Rambler Road, and Roslyn Avenue.

Police are urging residents to take some simple steps to protect their vehicles. Make sure your car is locked and that anything valuable is out of sight. A bag, phone, or wallet left on a seat can be enough to attract the wrong kind of attention.

If you see something that does not look right, call the Cambridge Police Department right away at 410-228-3333. When you call, try to give as many details as possible about the person or people involved, including what they look like, what they are wearing, and which direction they went.

There are also things you can do around your home to make your property less of a target.

Keeping the outside of your home well lit at night is one of the easiest ways to deter criminal activity. Posting "No Trespassing" signs and signs that indicate your property is being monitored can also make a difference.

The department is not asking residents to take any risks. They are simply asking people to stay aware and report what they see.

"It is the community in whole working with the Police Department that will help stop these crimes from occurring," the department said in a statement. "Be vigilant and committed to helping make Cambridge a better place for everyone."

These types of crimes are preventable when neighbors stay connected and keep their eyes open. A quick phone call to police could be exactly what it takes to stop the next incident before it happens.
