Centreville Woman Charged With DUI After Wild Bay Bridge Chase
Queen Anne's County, MD - A Centreville woman is facing a long list of charges after deputies say she sped away from a deputy, crashed in a field, and kept driving until her car was finally stopped near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
It happened the evening of June 28, 2026, around 6:58 PM. DFC A. Cooper, with the Queen Anne's County Office of the Sheriff, was heading south on Rt. 18 toward a call when a car came at him in the wrong lane. He had to swerve to avoid getting hit head-on.
Cooper turned around to follow the vehicle. He saw it crash into a culvert ditch and a planted field near Castle Marina Road. He turned on his lights and siren to respond, but the car pulled back onto the road, facing the wrong way, before continuing onto Castle Marina Road and then westbound Rt. 50.
From there, things got worse. The car slammed into a concrete barrier near Shopping Center Road without stopping, then weaved through lanes of traffic at speeds close to 100 miles per hour. Deputies authorized a pursuit.
The chase ended at the base of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. The car hit several traffic cones and two guardrails before spinning out and becoming inoperable.
Deputies approached with a high-risk stop and arrested the driver, identified as 27-year-old Carolyn Miller of Centreville, Maryland.
A search of her vehicle turned up multiple alcoholic beverages.
Deputies said they noticed signs of impairment and smelled alcohol on Miller's breath. She declined to perform standard field sobriety tests, but later agreed to a breath test. Her blood alcohol content came back at .22, well above the legal limit of .08.
Miller now faces a lengthy list of charges, including DUI, DUI per se, DWI, reckless driving, negligent driving, and failure to obey a traffic control device. Additional charges include unsafe lane change, failure to drive right of center, and failing to control vehicle speed to avoid a collision.
She was also charged with attempting to elude police, violating a license restriction, and driving with alcohol in her system in violation of that restriction. She faces one more charge for failing to remain at the scene of an accident involving vehicle or property damage.
