City of Salisbury Expands Support for Arts and Downtown Vitality Through Street Performers Initiative
Salisbury, MD - The City of Salisbury is putting a spotlight on local talent. Through its Arts, Business & Culture Department, the City is rolling out the Salisbury Street Performers Initiative. It sets clear rules for live performances in public spaces around town.
The initiative is open to all kinds of artistic expression. That includes acoustic music, singing, dance, magic, juggling, and other live entertainment. The goal is to give local artists a place to share their talent while keeping sidewalks, parks, and plazas safe and easy for everyone to use.
All backgrounds and experience levels are welcome. Musicians, singers, dancers, magicians, jugglers, mimes, and other performers can take part. Young performers can join in too, as long as a parent or guardian is with them.
Performances are allowed daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Performers need to keep walkways clear, avoid blocking entrances, and be respectful of nearby businesses and other performers.
Tips are welcome but never required. The City isn't setting rules around payment, just making sure performers can share their craft freely.
"Our downtown and public spaces play an important role in the City's overall economic and community vibrancy," said Mayor Randy Taylor. "By supporting street performers, we are strengthening activity in these spaces and enhancing the overall experience for residents and visitors alike."
Arts, Business & Culture Department Director Scott Roberts says this builds on something already growing in Salisbury. "Salisbury continues to see meaningful growth in arts and cultural expression," he said. "Salisbury Street Performing builds on that momentum by expanding opportunities for artists while contributing to a stronger, more connected cultural environment across the City."
