City Officials Address Misinformation Regarding Recent ICE Operation in Cambridge
Cambridge, MD - The City of Cambridge has issued a joint statement from Mayor Lajan Cephas Bey and City Manager Glenn Steckman to address recent social media posts concerning an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation.
City officials noted that many of the circulating posts contain false statements and provided factual clarifications regarding the event.
According to the statement, ICE agents had tracked the apprehended individuals from the Western Shore to the Eastern Shore. The arrest warrant was executed by a local ICE office based in Salisbury.
The Cambridge Police Department (CPD) was not notified of this operation prior to its execution, and the incident was not reported to the local department.
At the time the individuals were apprehended, approximately 15 percent of the roofing work at the location was completed. The dwelling is identified as a rental property, and the owner does not reside at the residence.
Furthermore, the roofing company initiated the work without a valid city permit. A valid permit was subsequently obtained after the incident occurred.
Officials stated that the tenant and the property owner are currently being targeted unfairly on social media platforms.
In response, additional resources have been assigned by the City to ensure that the community is not subjected to further targeting.
