Delaware Governor Nominates Veteran Attorney for Superior Court
State of DE - Governor Matt Meyer has nominated Jon E. Abramczyk to serve as a judge on the Delaware Superior Court for New Castle County.
Meyer made the announcement from Dover, citing Abramczyk's long record in the courtroom and his commitment to Delaware's legal system.
"Jon Abramczyk has built an exceptional career defined by legal excellence, public service, and a deep commitment to Delaware's judicial system," Meyer said. "His extensive trial experience, sound judgment, and integrity make him exceptionally well qualified to serve on the Superior Court."
Abramczyk spent more than 30 years handling complex corporate and commercial cases in Delaware courts as a partner at Morris, Nichols, Arsht and Tunnell LLP, one of the state's prominent corporate law firms.
His legal career started well before his time at the firm. After earning his law degree, he clerked for Delaware Supreme Court Justice Joseph T. Walsh. He then went on to serve as a Captain in the United States Army and worked as an attorney-advisor in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Honors Program.
The nomination now goes to the Delaware State Senate for confirmation. If approved, Abramczyk will step into the seat left open by the retirement of Judge Ferris W. Wharton.
The Superior Court handles serious criminal cases, major civil disputes, and appeals from lower courts. A judgeship on this court carries significant responsibility in shaping outcomes for Delaware residents and businesses alike.
Governor Meyer said he is confident in the nomination and looks forward to the Senate's review. "I am proud to nominate him and look forward to the Senate's consideration of his nomination," Meyer added.
No date has been announced for the Senate confirmation process.
