Delaware Man Charged After Threatening Neighbors Over Parking Dispute

State of DE - A parking disagreement turned dangerous over the weekend, according to New Castle County Police. Officers say a Claymont man threatened several neighbors with a knife and a hidden gun during the dispute.

Police responded to the 700 block of Naamans Road in the Whitney Gardens Apartments on Saturday, July 18, 2026, around 10:00 a.m. They were called about a disorderly subject who was reportedly armed with multiple weapons.

Officers had a description of the man before they arrived. Once on scene, they quickly located and detained 24-year-old Michael Bailey of Claymont, Delaware. A knife was found on him during the stop.

Investigators say Bailey had gotten into an argument with several people in the apartment complex over a parking issue. During the dispute, he allegedly threatened the victims with the knife. He also allegedly revealed a firearm tucked in his waistband and threatened to shoot them.

After Bailey's arrest, detectives got a search warrant for his home. Inside, they recovered two 9mm handguns along with several ammunition magazines and extra ammunition.

Bailey was taken to New Castle County Police headquarters, where he was charged with the following offenses:

  • Six felony counts of Aggravated Menacing

  • One felony count of Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony

  • One felony count of Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon

  • One felony count of Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited

  • One misdemeanor count of Disorderly Conduct

  • One misdemeanor count of Terroristic Threatening

Bailey was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11. He was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $27,100 secured bail.
