Wicomico County, MD - On October 22, 2026, at approximately 1:00 a.m., the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office responded to the 1000 block of Maple Street in Delmar, Maryland, for a welfare check. What deputies found when they got there turned the call into a serious assault case.

The first deputy to arrive saw a man on top of an older man, who is in his 70's, and was physically attacking him.

The deputy stepped in right away to stop the attack. A second deputy showed up a short time later and helped take the man into custody.

Deputies later identified the man as Brandon Grasso, 35, of Delmar, Delaware. He now faces four charges in the case.

Those charges are first-degree assault, second-degree assault, home invasion, and fourth-degree burglary. A warrant has been issued for Grasso, however it has not been served due to ongoing medical treatment.

While some deputies dealt with the suspect, others began caring for the victim. He had serious injuries to his face and several broken ribs.

The Sheriff's Office says the injuries appear to have come from blunt force and human bites. The Delmar Volunteer Fire Department also came to the scene to give medical help.

The case is still under investigation. The Sheriff's Office says there is no known threat to the community at this time.

Anyone with information about what happened is asked to call Detective J. Lowe with the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division. The number is 410-548-4891.
