Delmar Woman Dies in Laurel Crash, DSP Investigating

Sussex County, DE - On August 27, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Delaware State Police responded to the intersection of Salt Barn Road and Old Stage Road in Laurel for a fatal two vehicle crash.

A Nissan Frontier was traveling westbound on Salt Barn Road approaching the stop sign at Old Stage Road. At the same time, a Kia Sportage was traveling southbound on Old Stage Road.

The preliminary investigation found the Nissan failed to stop at the stop sign and struck the driver's side front of the Kia.

The driver of the Kia, a 54 year old woman from Delmar, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name is being withheld until her family is notified.

The driver of the Nissan, a 63 year old man from Laurel, was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
