The Dorchester County State's Attorney's Office and the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office jointly announced the charges on May 13, 2026. The charges stem from an ongoing investigation into alleged animal cruelty and neglect occurring in Dorchester County.

Debora Kay Naylor is charged with 100 criminal counts. Thomas Henry Naylor is charged with 102 criminal counts.

Debora's charges include felony aggravated animal cruelty, animal cruelty resulting in death, and numerous misdemeanor counts related to the failure to provide adequate food, water, and necessary veterinary care to multiple animals, including horses, dogs, and goats.

Thomas faces multiple felony counts of aggravated animal cruelty and animal cruelty resulting in death. His charges also include numerous misdemeanor offenses involving similar allegations of neglect and mistreatment of animals.

The charges include allegations of serious harm to animals, including conduct resulting in the death of at least one horse. Authorities say the animals were subjected to prolonged deprivation of necessary food and medical care.
