Dorchester County Man Charged with Attempted Murder After Firing at State Trooper

Dorchester County, MD - Maryland State Police have arrested a 46-year-old Dorchester County man on attempted murder charges. The arrest occurred after the suspect allegedly fired a weapon at a state trooper who was responding to a disturbance call.

The suspect has been identified as Armond Darel Jolley of Vienna, Maryland.

Following a consultation with the Office of the State's Attorney in Dorchester County, Jolley was charged with attempted first-degree murder alongside other related criminal charges. He was transported to the Easton Barrack for processing and is currently being held without bond at the Dorchester County Detention Center.

The incident began at approximately 10:20 p.m. A Maryland State Trooper from the Easton Barrack was dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of Middle Street in Vienna, Maryland.

Upon arrival, the trooper approached the open front door. Contact was made with a man standing inside the living room area.

The trooper requested to speak to the man, who then retreated further into the home. Moments later, the suspect returned with a firearm and discharged multiple shots toward the trooper.

The suspect then fled the location. The trooper did not return fire. He safely retreated to cover and requested additional units to respond to the area. The trooper was uninjured during the shooting.

Maryland State Troopers from the Easton Barrack immediately secured the perimeter. Neighborhood checks were conducted to canvas the area.

Approximately 20 minutes after the shooting, the suspect was located near Water Street, directly behind the residence. After a brief foot pursuit, Jolley was taken into police custody without further incident.

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is leading the ongoing investigation. The scene was processed for evidence by technicians from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division.

Additional support at the scene was provided by the Criminal Enforcement Division, the Underwater Recovery Team, the Office of the State Fire Marshal, and deputies from the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office.
