Dover Man Arrested Following Dewey Beach Stabbing
Dewey Beach, DE - Police in Dewey Beach arrested a Dover man after a domestic dispute turned violent Friday night, leaving another man hospitalized with multiple stab wounds. The Dewey Beach Police Department responded to the 100 block of Read Avenue at approximately 10:25 p.m. on July 3, 2026, for a reported stabbing. Officers arrived to find a 37-year-old man from Clayton, Delaware at the intersection of Coastal Highway and Read Avenue, suffering from multiple stab wounds to his upper torso. Officers rendered aid until medics arrived. He was taken to an area hospital and is listed in stable condition. Investigators say the incident began as a domestic dispute. The father of a woman's children reportedly showed up uninvited at her residence and got into a physical fight with her boyfriend. During that fight, police say the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim several times in the upper torso. The woman and her children, who were present, were not hurt. The suspect was also injured in the altercation and was taken to Beebe Healthcare for treatment. After his release, police arrested Samuel Coker, 37, of Dover, Delaware. Coker was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Delaware Department of Correction on an intoxication hold. He faces several charges, including: Assault First Degree - Intentionally Causing Serious Physical Injury with a Deadly Weapon Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony Two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child Carrying a Concealed Dangerous Instrument Two counts of Criminal Mischief Disorderly Conduct Police believe this was an isolated incident tied to a personal dispute. They say there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation is still active.
