State of DE - A Dover, Delaware man will spend the next 67 years behind bars after being sentenced for the rape and murder of a Wilmington, Delaware woman.

Kyle Batson, 28, was sentenced on June 12, 2026 in New Castle County Superior Court. He previously pleaded guilty to Murder 2nd Degree, Rape 1st Degree, Strangulation, Abuse of a Corpse, and Theft of a Motor Vehicle.

The charges stem from the September 12, 2024, rape and murder of Myeshia Triplett, 44-years of age. Batson attacked her in an alleyway near the 700 Block of Catawba Avenue in Wilmington.

After the attack, Batson stole a vehicle and fled to Howard County, Maryland. He was involved in a collision there and taken into custody. He was extradited back to Delaware on December 4, 2024.

Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings addressed the case following the sentencing.
"It is difficult to fathom this kind of violence," said Attorney General Jennings. "I am profoundly grateful to our prosecutors and our partners at the Wilmington Police Department who worked tirelessly to achieve justice for Myeshia Triplett and her family. My heart is with them at this difficult time."

Wilmington Police Chief Wilfredo Campos also spoke on the outcome.

"I continue to be proud of and appreciate the dedication of both our investigators and our partner law enforcement agencies, who worked quickly to identify and apprehend this dangerous offender responsible for truly heinous crimes," said Chief Campos. "We hope this sentencing will bring the Triplett family some degree of comfort that justice has been delivered on behalf of their loved ones."

The Wilmington Police Department worked alongside the Delaware Department of Justice to build the case against Batson.

Myeshia Triplett's death sent shockwaves through the community. Her family has endured more than a year of grief while waiting for justice to be served.

With Batson now sentenced to 67 years, the case is closed and her family can begin to move forward.
