Downtown Parking Garage Closing June 1 for Repairs
Salisbury, MD - The City of Salisbury is temporarily closing its downtown parking garage starting June 1. The closure will last through June 15 to allow crews to complete a list of structural repairs and improvements.
The city says the two-week window was chosen specifically to bundle multiple projects together and reduce future disruptions. Work will include corbel repairs performed by an outside contractor, a full power washing of all interior levels, and routine sweeping of all driving lanes and parking areas.
Crews will also repaint the stairwells and add a clear numbering system to make it easier for people to find their way around the garage. New payment signage will be installed throughout the interior levels, ramps, and common areas.
The project also covers elevator and standpipe inspections, replacement of worn flooring inside the elevator cab, door and window repairs, and light landscaping around the garage entrances.
Mayor Randy Taylor weighed in on the closure. "While closure of the parking garage is never convenient, as you can see, the City has timed a host of repairs for this closure in order to limit disruptions. We appreciate your patience as we strive to keep the garage properly maintained."
Drivers who normally use the garage are encouraged to park in Lot 1, 10, 12, or 15 during the closure. On-street parking throughout the downtown area will also be available.
The city is making it a little easier to find a spot on the street. Parking enforcement will be relaxed during the closure period, with officers focusing only on significant violations like double parking or parking against the flow of traffic.
Signage will be posted around the garage to direct drivers to nearby parking options.
The city is asking for patience as the work gets done and expects the garage to reopen on schedule when the two weeks are up.
