Eastern Shore Undercover Editorial: The Hatred In Politics and Elections

Is anyone besides me sick and tired of the bickering and hatred between Republicans and Democrats? It seems like every day, someone is pointing fingers about who did what, who is working with who, and who is to blame.

Somehow, we have become a society that is less about helping each other and more about causing damage to the other side. People have stopped thinking about humanity and civility when it comes to politics. They just look for the next chance to tear someone else down, and that is sad!

That is not coming from just one party. I see it from Republicans and I see it from Democrats, and it is disgusting. Politics should be about policies, leadership, and what makes our community stronger, but it has turned into something nasty and evil.

It has even led to people assaulting each other at Candidate Forums, and that is just totally unacceptable.

Then god forbid, we have leaders from both sides of the table who want to work together for the greater good of our citizens! Yesterday, we were sent a website post from a blogger who bashed our County Executive because she has worked well with Maryland Governor Wes Moore.

Later in the day, I saw that the County Executive posted on her Facebook page about more people sharing a photo, one that I took of her and the Governor, and using it in a negative manner.

That photo was taken at the airport runway extension announcement, which was good news for Wicomico County citizens. Governor Moore is a Democrat and County Executive Julie Giordano is a Republican, and they worked together to make that runway extension possible.

Without it, there is no Breeze Airways and there is no flight school here in Wicomico County. That is how it should be! Both parties working together for the greater good!

Yet some Republicans and some Democrats would rather see no progress at all. To them, it is a terrible thing when a Democrat and a Republican work together for the greater good. That makes no sense to me.

Ironically, the same people who are complaining about her working with a Democrat in Governor Wes Moore, I've also seen criticizing her, calling her MAGA because she's a Republican. How can you have it both ways? Do you want it to work with the Democrat side, or do you want it to work with the Republican side?

So here is an idea. Instead of hating someone because they are a Republican or a Democrat, grade them on what they have done and what they stand for. That goes for County Executive Giordano, Governor Moore, every council member, every Board of Education candidate, no matter what the position is.

Do not vote for someone because they are a man or a woman. Do not vote for them because they are white or black, or because they have blonde hair, brown hair or the color of their eyes.

Vote for what they have accomplished. Vote for the policies that will make your family stronger in the future. And please, let's have a little less hatred on both sides.

Early voting starts this Thursday, October 22, and runs through Thursday, October 29. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. Let's not let this get any uglier than it already has, because there is enough hatred in this world already.
