Easton Apartment Fire Quickly Contained After Neighbor Hears Smoke Alarm

Easton, MD - On April 16, 2026, at approximately 9:30 P.M., an apartment fire occurred at 509 Goldsborough Street, Unit B in Easton, Maryland. The property is a two-story, wood-frame, multi-family dwelling.

The fire originated in the interior kitchen of the unit. A preliminary investigation determined the cause to be an accidental cooking fire. The incident began due to the ignition of combustible materials while the stove was being utilized.

A neighbor was alerted to the situation after hearing smoke alarms activate in the nearby residence. Because of this early warning, the occupant was able to escape safely.

The Easton Volunteer Fire Department responded as the primary agency. A total of 16 firefighters were dispatched for the single-alarm call. The fire was brought under control within 10 minutes of their arrival.

No injuries or deaths were reported as a result of the incident. There were no arrests, and no residents were displaced. The estimated property loss is $500.00.

While smoke alarms were present and activated, the structure did not have a building-wide fire alarm or sprinkler system installed.
