Easton, MD - A 72-year-old St. Michaels woman was arrested early Wednesday morning after repeatedly calling 911 from a local hospital to request a ride home, according to the Easton Police Department.

Officers responded to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton on Tuesday evening, May 20, 2026, around 9:32 p.m. Denise Carson had placed multiple 911 calls from the facility asking to be transported to her residence in St. Michaels.

When officers arrived and made contact with Carson, she was told clearly that 911 is not a transportation service. She was given contact information for local taxi companies and warned that continuing to misuse the emergency line could lead to criminal charges.

Despite those warnings, Carson kept calling. Officers documented numerous non-emergency 911 calls placed throughout the evening, even after being told repeatedly to stop.

Hospital security staff also reported that Carson had become disruptive in the emergency waiting area and was refusing to follow directions from staff. The situation continued into the early morning hours of May 21.

Around 12:15 a.m., hospital security asked officers to remove Carson from the property after she refused to comply with staff. She was advised she was being trespassed from the property and would be arrested if she did not leave.

Carson refused to leave and was taken into custody without incident. She was charged with Telephone Misuse, Failure to Obey a Lawful Order, and Trespassing.

Carson was later transferred to the Talbot County Detention Center and was released on her own personal recognizance.
