Electrical Failure Sparks Chicken House Fire in Salisbury
Wicomico County, MD - A large chicken house in Salisbury, Maryland caught fire on Friday afternoon, according to Fruitland Volunteer Fire Company. The fire broke out around 1:08 p.m. in the 4000 block of St. Luke's Road in Wicomico County.
The structure measured approximately 500 feet by 43 feet. Firefighters were able to knock down the blaze quickly, with the fire brought under control in just five minutes.
Eight firefighters responded to the scene under a single alarm. No injuries were reported, and no one was displaced as a result of the fire.
Importantly, no chickens were inside the structure at the time of the fire, according to officials. The property owner discovered the fire and reported it right away.
Fire investigators say the blaze started in a void space within an interior wall. The preliminary cause has been listed as accidental, resulting from an electrical failure.
Damage to the structure is estimated at $1,000, with no reported loss to contents. Smoke alarm and sprinkler information for the structure was not applicable in this case.
