Fatal Grain Tank Entrapment Investigated at Bridgeville Farm
Bridgeville, DE - The Delaware State Police is investigating a fatal agricultural accident that occurred on Friday, April 10, 2026. The incident took place in Bridgeville, Delaware and resulted in the death of one person and left another with injuries.
At approximately 4:50 p.m., emergency personnel responded to Evans Farms at the 12600 block of Redden Road in Bridgeville, Delaware. The Bridgeville Fire Company, mutual aid fire companies, and state police were dispatched following a report of two men trapped inside a grain tank.
Upon arrival, rescue crews confirmed the entrapment and requested additional resources. Lengthy rescue operations were subsequently initiated by personnel from Delaware and Maryland.
During the operation, a 20-year-old Bridgeville man was extracted from the grain tank. He was transported to an area hospital for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
A 66-year-old Bridgeville man was later located inside the structure. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is currently being withheld pending the notification of his family.
The investigation was assumed by the Delaware State Police Troop 4 Criminal Investigations Unit.
Preliminary findings indicate that the two men entered the grain tank to loosen an auger that had become clogged with corn. While they were inside the tank, corn from a higher level shifted and slid onto them. Both men were subsequently trapped under the grain.
