Georgetown Man Dies Following Crash on Dupont Boulevard
Sussex County, DE - An 81-year-old Georgetown, Delaware man has died following a serious single-vehicle crash on Dupont Boulevard last week. The Delaware State Police are continuing their investigation into what led up to the collision.
The crash happened on Friday, April 17, 2026, around noon. A Ford Explorer was heading southbound on Dupont Boulevard, just north of McColley's Chapel Road, when it began to drift off the road.
The vehicle veered off the west edge of the roadway and struck a mailbox, a road sign, and a large embankment. After the impact, the Explorer caught fire.
Bystanders at the scene acted quickly. They pulled the unresponsive driver from the burning vehicle and began performing life-saving measures until help arrived.
The driver was identified as Michael Jeffra, 81, of Georgetown, Delaware. He was transported to an area hospital following the crash.
Investigators initially believed Jeffra may have suffered a medical emergency before the crash occurred. However, further investigation determined that he died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.
Dupont Boulevard was shut down for about two hours while troopers worked the scene. Traffic in the area was impacted as investigators gathered evidence and cleared the roadway.
