Grasonville Man Arrested for Drug Impaired Driving
Queen Anne's County, MD - A Grasonville man was arrested on drug impaired driving charges after a Queen Anne's County Deputy found him asleep behind the wheel in a parking lot earlier this month.
On May 10, 2026, at approximately 1:56 p.m., Deputy First Class Schultz responded to Smoke Heaven in Grasonville, Maryland, after employees reported a man trying to force his way back into the store.
When Deputy Schultz arrived, staff explained that the man had tried to make a purchase but did not have enough money and left on his own. After he walked out, employees locked the door.
The man then repeatedly tried to get back inside. Employees told the deputy he had since gone to a vehicle in a nearby parking lot, and they were worried he was not in any condition to drive.
Schultz located the vehicle and found it parked at an angle in the parking stall. The driver was asleep in the seat, the keys were in the ignition, and the vehicle was not in park.
Deputies woke the driver, who was identified as Michael Eslin. While talking with him, Schultz noticed several signs of impairment. Eslin agreed to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests but did not adequately complete them. At that point, Eslin was placed under arrest.
Eslin agreed to a breath test, which returned a result of .000. Because signs of impairment continued, a Drug Recognition Expert was called in to conduct an evaluation, which Eslin also agreed to. The expert determined that Eslin was impaired and not able to safely operate a vehicle.
Eslin was charged with driving while impaired by a controlled dangerous substance, driving a vehicle while so far impaired by drugs he could not drive safely, negligent driving, and reckless driving.
