House Fire Displaces Two in Greensboro, Cause Under Investigation

Caroline County, MD - A house fire in Caroline County left two people without a home Saturday afternoon after flames broke out at a residence on Bernard Avenue in Greensboro, Maryland.

The fire was reported in the 400 block of Bernard Ave around 3:15 p.m. on April 25, 2026.

Occupants of the home discovered the fire and got out before firefighters arrived.

The Greensboro Volunteer Fire Company and surrounding agencies responded to the single-alarm call. About 35 firefighters worked the scene and had the fire under control within 20 minutes.

The blaze started on the back porch of the one-story, single-family home. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The damage is significant. Authorities estimate the structure suffered around $150,000 in damage, with another $50,000 in contents lost.

A smoke alarm was present in the home at the time of the fire.

Both displaced occupants are receiving help from family members and the American Red Cross. The Red Cross routinely steps in after home fires to help with immediate needs like food, clothing, and temporary housing.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
