House Fire in Cambridge Displaces Family of Three and Eight Dogs
Cambridge, MD - A house fire in the 900 block of Central Avenue in Cambridge, Maryland left three people and their eight dogs without a home late Tuesday night.
Fire Crews were called to the two-story, wood-framed home just before midnight on June 30, 2026, after the occupants discovered a fire in their kitchen. Fire officials say the fire started accidentally when grease in a cooking pan caught fire.
One person suffered a minor burn during the fire. EMS treated them on the scene, but they refused to be taken to the hospital for further care.
Fire officials estimate the home suffered about $100,000 in damage, with another $30,000 in damage to items inside. The home's smoke alarm was working and went off during the fire, though the house did not have a fire sprinkler system.
Rescue Fire Company led the response, with 45 firefighters battling the blaze. It took about 50 minutes to bring the fire under control.
The American Red Cross is now helping the family and their eight dogs find a place to stay.
