Talbot County, MD - A house fire broke out Monday afternoon in Easton, Maryland, sending one person to the hospital and leaving a resident without a home.
The fire was reported at approximately 4:20 p.m. on April 27, 2026, in the 400 block of Winton Avenue in Easton, Talbot County, Maryland. The Easton Volunteer Fire Department and several assisting agencies responded to the scene.
Firefighters arrived to find a two-story, wood frame, single-family home on fire. It took 35 firefighters working together to bring the blaze under control in about 30 minutes.
One occupant was transported to a local medical center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries related to the fire.
Investigators determined the fire started in the kitchen. The preliminary cause has been listed as accidental, stemming from unattended cooking.
The smoke alarm inside the home was present and activated at the time of the fire.
The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damage to the structure and its contents. The investigation remains ongoing.
This incident is a reminder of how quickly a kitchen fire can get out of hand. Fire safety officials consistently urge residents never to leave cooking unattended, even for a short time.
If you are cooking on the stove, stay in the kitchen. If you need to step away, turn off the burner first.
