Salisbury, MD - The City of Salisbury has plans in motion to bring a new walking trail and outdoor fitness stations to Lake Street Park. The project is designed to give residents a safe, accessible place to stay active right in their own neighborhood.

The trail will run along the perimeter of the park, following the existing fence line. It will create a dedicated loop for walking and jogging that the community can use any time.

Along the trail, the city will install eight outdoor workout stations. Each station will include a bench, giving people a place to exercise, rest, or simply enjoy the park. The equipment is free to use and open to residents of all ages.

The project is funded through federal Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus funds, commonly known as CDBG-CV. Those funds have helped cities across the country invest in neighborhood improvements tied to public health and community well-being.

One of the goals of the project is to remove barriers to exercise. Not everyone has access to a gym or reliable transportation to get to one. Having free fitness equipment at a nearby park makes it easier for people to stay active without added cost or hassle.

Mayor Randy Taylor spoke about what the project means for the community. "This project is an investment in the health, wellness and quality of life of this neighborhood and our community as a whole. We are proud to continue investing in projects that strengthen our neighborhoods and expand recreational opportunities throughout Salisbury," he said.

Construction is expected to wrap up by the end of May, weather permitting. Once complete, Lake Street Park will offer residents a new reason to get outside and get moving.

The trail and fitness stations are part of the city's broader effort to improve neighborhood parks and public spaces across Salisbury. Projects like this one aim to make the city a healthier and more connected place to live.
