Laurel, DE - A change in leadership is coming to the Laurel School District. Dr. Shawn C. Larrimore will finish his active duties as Superintendent on October 30, 2026.

The Laurel School District Board of Education shared the news in a recent statement. The board said the change follows discussions between Dr. Larrimore and the board.

Dr. Larrimore has spent thirteen years serving the Laurel School District. The board thanked him for his dedicated service, his leadership, and everything he has contributed to the district during that time.

As his time in the role comes to a close, Dr. Larrimore plans to help with the handoff. The board said he remains committed to making sure the transition is smooth and orderly.

Two district leaders will share the work of leading the district once he leaves the position. Mrs. Susan Whaley and Mr. Ashley Giska will jointly take on the Superintendent's responsibilities for the rest of the 2026-2027 school year.

Both already hold leadership roles in the district. Mrs. Whaley currently serves as Director of Student Services, and Mr. Giska serves as Assistant Superintendent.

The Board of Education said its focus is on keeping things steady during this period. Board members want the district's day-to-day operations to continue without interruption.

The board also made it clear where its attention will stay. It said the needs of students, staff, and the entire school community remain its highest priority.
