Lexington Park Man Faces Ammunition Charge in Cambridge
Cambridge, MD - On Sunday, October 4, 2026, at approximately 9:50 a.m., officers with the Cambridge Police Department served a criminal summons on a Lexington Park man.
The man was identified as Demetrice Dontez Demby Jr., 28, of Lexington Park, Maryland. He is charged with Illegal Possession of Ammunition.
A criminal summons is a court order that tells a person they have been charged and must appear in court. It is used instead of an arrest in some cases.
The charge goes back to a traffic stop about a month earlier. On Thursday, September 3, 2026, at approximately 2:05 p.m., Cambridge Police officers pulled over a vehicle on Pine Street at North Drive in Cambridge, Maryland.
According to police, the vehicle was stopped because of an equipment problem. While officers were on the stop, a Cambridge Police K9 unit came to the scene.
The K9 sniffed around the outside of the vehicle. Police said the dog gave a positive alert for a controlled dangerous substance.
Officers then searched and found packaging material with cocaine on Demby. They also found that he had ammunition and parts for a handgun.
Demby was given a criminal citation that day for CDS Possession Not Cannabis. That charge covers having a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis.
Officers kept working on the case after the traffic stop. During that follow up, they learned Demby was not allowed to have ammunition.
Police did not share why Demby was restricted from having ammunition. A person can lose the right to own guns or ammunition for several reasons under Maryland law.
Officers took what they found to a District Court Commissioner and applied for charges. That led to the criminal summons served on October 4, 2026.
