State of DE - The Delaware State Police arrested 31-year-old Anthony Dejesus of Claymont, Delaware, after he allegedly threatened two students with a firearm near Claymont Elementary School on Wednesday morning.

According to police, the incident occurred on April 1, 2026, at approximately 9:30 a.m. Detectives from the Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit responded to Claymont Elementary School, located at 3401 Green Street, after receiving a report that an adult had threatened children with a firearm.

The preliminary investigation found that a red Nissan sedan arrived at the school shortly before the start of the school day. Police said the vehicle was driven by an adult male wearing a face covering.

A female passenger got out of the car to escort students into the building, while the driver moved the vehicle and parked nearby on Green Street.

While sitting in the vehicle, the driver became involved in a verbal exchange with two students who approached him. During that encounter, police said the driver showed what the students believed was a handgun and threatened to shoot them.

The students ran from the area and reported the incident to school staff. Staff members then called 9-1-1 and notified the school's constable. School staff also approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver, but he left before police arrived.

As the investigation continued, detectives identified the driver as Anthony Dejesus. Investigators also determined that he is prohibited from possessing firearms because of a prior misdemeanor conviction related to domestic violence.

Police said Dejesus later responded to Troop 2, where he was charged and arraigned by Justice of the Peace 2. He was then committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $41,000 cash bond.

The charges filed against Dejesus include possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited following a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence conviction, two counts of aggravated menacing, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, and two counts of terroristic threatening.
