Man Charged After 18 Thefts at Stevensville Target
Queen Anne's County, MD - Deputy Kane responded to the Stevensville Target on July 3, 2026, after a report of theft. Asset Protection told the deputy a man had skipped paying for an item at self-checkout. He then walked past all final points of sale without paying.
Deputy Kane reviewed the store's surveillance footage. The video matched the account given by the employee.
Store staff also shared more troubling news. They said the same man, identified as Jonathan Ross, had stolen from the store 17 other times since April 2026.
Asset Protection provided documentation for each of those prior incidents. With the evidence in hand, Deputy Kane placed Ross under arrest. He now faces multiple charges tied to the pattern of theft.
Ross was charged with 18 counts of Theft Less Than $100. He also faces a charge of Theft Scheme between $100 and under $1,500.
Cases like this show how retail theft can add up over time. What starts as a single missed item at self-checkout can turn into a long list of charges. Local businesses rely on quick reporting and solid surveillance to help law enforcement build these cases.
