Maryland Folk Festival Will Not Be Held in 2026, Salisbury Officials Announce
Salisbury, MD - The City of Salisbury has announced that the Maryland Folk Festival will not take place in 2026. Officials cite funding challenges following a difficult sponsorship and grant cycle as the reason for the cancellation.
After a careful evaluation, city leaders determined they could not produce the festival at the level of quality the community has come to expect.
"This was not an easy decision," said Caroline O'Hare, Events and Culture Manager for the City of Salisbury. "The folk festival has become a meaningful tradition for our community, bringing people together through music, dance, food, and shared experiences. We are incredibly proud of what has been built over the years."
The Maryland Folk Festival has been a major event in downtown Salisbury since it transitioned from the National Folk Festival. Each year, the event has drawn tens of thousands of attendees and featured nationally and internationally recognized artists alongside regional performers and cultural traditions.
The festival has long been considered a cornerstone of the city's arts and culture programming. It has also served as a significant driver of activity for downtown Salisbury businesses and vendors.
The City of Salisbury expressed appreciation to the many sponsors, volunteers, artists, local businesses, and city employees who helped make the festival a success over the past decade.
Their contributions helped create a welcoming, family friendly event that celebrated cultural diversity and brought the community together.
While the 2026 festival will not happen, the City's Arts, Business, and Culture Department says it remains committed to providing opportunities for residents and visitors to experience the arts and engage with diverse cultural traditions.
O'Hare noted that the city is already thinking ahead. "We're taking this time to reflect and look ahead," she said. "Our goal is to continue building meaningful experiences for our community in new and thoughtful ways. We're already beginning conversations around future community-centered programming and exploring what a new event in Fall 2027 could look like for Salisbury."
For now, no specific replacement event has been announced. The city says additional updates will be shared as future programming comes together.
Salisbury residents and festival supporters are encouraged to stay connected with the City of Salisbury Arts, Business, and Culture Department for any announcements regarding upcoming events and programming.
