Milford Man Convicted in 2024 Attempted Murder
State of DE - A Milford man has been found guilty on all charges following a violent attack that left a woman with life-threatening injuries in November 2024.
Derrick Legree, 39, was convicted on May 12, 2026, by a Superior Court jury. The charges include Attempted Murder First Degree, Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited, Aggravated Menacing, Breach of Conditions of Bond During Commitment, and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
The attack happened on November 3, 2024, at an apartment complex in Milford. Legree beat the victim repeatedly before attacking her with a liquor bottle and a knife. The assault left her with injuries so severe that she required extensive hospitalization and surgery to survive.
Legree fled the scene before police arrived. He was later arrested in Philadelphia and brought back to face the charges against him.
Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings praised the work that led to the convictions. "Our DOJ trial team and law enforcement partners did tremendous work in obtaining these guilty verdicts," Jennings said. "It is nothing short of a miracle that the victim survived, and her bravery will help ensure that the defendant will never be able to hurt anyone again."
The guilty verdicts were secured by the Delaware Department of Justice in partnership with local law enforcement. The case highlights the serious consequences that come with violent crimes in the community.
Sentencing for Legree is currently scheduled for September 10, 2026. The charges he faces carry the potential for significant prison time.
