Lewes, DE - On September 1, 2026, at approximately 6:10 p.m., Delaware State Police responded to Coastal Highway near Bay Crossing Boulevard in Lewes for a fatal motorcycle crash.

A Kia Sorento was heading north on Coastal Highway and moved into the turn lane at Bay Crossing Boulevard. At the same time, a Harley Davidson motorcycle was heading south in the far-left lane, getting close to the same intersection.

Troopers say the early investigation shows the Kia was making a U-turn when it pulled into the motorcycle's path. The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Kia. The impact threw the motorcycle's operator from the bike.

The motorcyclist was a 48-year-old man from Harbeson. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries. His name is being held until his family can be notified.

The driver of the Kia was a 77-year-old woman from New Berlin, Pennsylvania. She and two passengers in her vehicle were not hurt.

Coastal Highway was shut down for about three hours while police worked the scene. It has since reopened.

The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit is still looking into the crash. Anyone who saw what happened is asked to call Master Corporal R. Albert at (302) 703-3266.
