National News - The US Mint has a new dollar coin, and it is already getting attention. The 2026 Semiquincentennial President Donald J. Trump $1 Coin went on sale today at 12 PM ET. It can be purchased directly from the Mint in bags and rolls.

The coin's front shows a portrait of President Trump. It includes the words "Liberty," "In God We Trust," and "1776 ~ 2026," marking the nation's 250th birthday this year.

The back of the coin features the Presidential Seal. That design shows an eagle holding an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, with a shield on its chest. The shield includes the number 250 to honor the Semiquincentennial, along with the words "United States of America" and "One Dollar."

According to the Mint, the coins are being struck at the Philadelphia facility and will be placed into general circulation later this fall. That means they will eventually start showing up in everyday change, not just in Mint purchases.

This is the first time in almost 100 years that a sitting president has appeared on a widely circulated US coin. The last time it happened was in 1926, when Calvin Coolidge was featured on a special half dollar during his time in office.

Right now, buyers can get a roll of 25 coins for $61, or a bag of 100 coins for $154.50. The Mint has also said that 250,000 of these coins were struck on the Fourth of July with a special mark to celebrate the anniversary. Those coins are mixed in randomly with the regular bags and rolls, so buyers may get one without knowing it ahead of time.

The coin does not contain gold or any other precious metal, despite its gold-like color. It is made from the same materials already used in other dollar coins.

Anyone interested in picking one up can order through the Mint's website while supplies last.
