Caroline County, MD - A teacher at North Caroline High School has been chosen for one of the best known teaching exchange programs in the world. Alla Rada has received a Fulbright Teacher Exchange award from the U.S. Department of State for the 2026-2027 cycle.

The news was shared on September 1, 2026, by Fulbright Teacher Exchanges. Rada joins a group of about 2,500 U.S. citizens who will go overseas this school year to teach, study, and do research through the Fulbright Program.

The Fulbright Teacher Exchanges are built for teachers who work with students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Teachers in the program receive training and take part in exchanges that focus on new teaching methods. According to the program, these include methods tied to technology, AI, and critical minerals.

The time abroad is also meant to help teachers meet and work with other educators. The program says many Fulbright participants keep working with the people they meet overseas long after their trip ends. Those connections can lead to new partnerships between schools and other institutions down the road.

The goal is for teachers to bring what they learn back home. When participants return to their classrooms, they share their experiences with students and fellow staff. The program says many go on to host visiting scholars and encourage others to look into chances to learn abroad.

The Fulbright Program began in 1946. It was created to support peace around the world and success here at home through education and cultural exchange.

This year is a big one for the program. Fulbright is celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2026, the same year America marks its 250th birthday. The program said the two milestones give it a chance to highlight its role in American leadership and innovation.

Fulbright is open to Americans as well as people from 160 countries and locations. For 80 years, the program says, its participants have taken part in important research, helped grow key industries, and prepared young people with new skills and new ways of seeing the world.

Each year, more than 2,500 Americans take part in the program. That group includes teachers, artists, and professionals from many different backgrounds.
