Man Held Without Bond After Traffic Stop Uncovers Drugs and Stolen Gun in Caroline County
Caroline County, MD - A traffic stop on Shore Highway Thursday night led deputies to seize a large stash of drugs and a stolen handgun, according to the Caroline County Sheriff's Office.
On Thursday, June 25, 2026, at around 7:21 p.m., the Caroline County Communications Center got a call about a vehicle driving recklessly on Shore Highway. Deputies were already nearby and responded right away.
Cpl. Greenlee spotted a white GMC Sierra 1500 with Pennsylvania plates and saw the driver operating it negligently. He pulled the truck over near Shore Highway and Downes Station Road.
The driver was identified as 38-year-old Ryan Gerald Dailey, of Laurel, MD. Deputies said Dailey appeared noticeably nervous and blamed his erratic driving on a large pit bulldog riding in the back seat.
During the stop, K-9 Ace, Cpl. Greenlee's certified drug-sniffing partner, scanned the vehicle and alerted to the presence of the odor of illegal narcotics. A search of the truck turned up:
- Heroin
- Fentanyl
- Powder cocaine
- Crack cocaine
- Suboxone strips
- Hypodermic needles
- A cutting agent
- A digital scale with drug residue
Deputies say the amount and variety of drugs found pointed to possession with intent to distribute.
On top of the drugs, deputies found a loaded .380 caliber handgun in the center console. The gun had been reported stolen out of New Castle, Delaware.
Dailey was arrested and faces multiple charges, including:
- Handgun in a Vehicle
- CDS: Distribution, etc. with a Firearm
- Firearm Use in a Felony/Violent Crime
- Firearm/Drug Trafficking Crime
- Illegal Possession of a Regulated Firearm
- Transporting a Loaded Handgun on a Public Roadway
He was taken before a District Court Commissioner and ordered held without bond at the Caroline County Detention Center.
