Pocomoke City Woman Killed in Pedestrian Crash

Worcester County, MD - A Pocomoke City woman has died after being struck by a vehicle on Ocean Highway on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Worcester County Sheriff's Office.

The crash happened around 1:52 p.m. on May 12, 2026, in the 1000 block of Ocean Highway in Pocomoke City, Maryland. Worcester County Emergency Services received a 911 call reporting the pedestrian crash and responded to the scene.

Bystanders stepped in to help before emergency crews arrived. They began performing life-saving measures until EMS personnel took over. Despite those efforts, the woman did not survive her injuries.

The victim has been identified as Sandra Mattingly of Pocomoke City, Maryland.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. At this time, authorities say there is no indication that the driver was impaired or violated any Maryland Transportation laws.

The Pocomoke City Police Department handled the initial crash report. The Worcester County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Unit has since been called in to assist with the ongoing investigation.
