Pocomoke Woman Sentenced to 5 Years for Stealing $191K
Wicomico County, MD - A Pocomoke woman is heading to prison after stealing more than $191,000 from her employer and committing insurance fraud while working as a business manager.
Taylor Clark, 32, was sentenced Tuesday in the Circuit Court for Wicomico County. Judge S. James Sarbanes handed down a 20-year sentence, suspending all but five years. Clark will serve three years for theft over $100,000 and two additional consecutive years for insurance fraud.
When she gets out, Clark will face five years of supervised probation. She is also required to pay full restitution to her victims.
Clark was hired as a business manager in November 2024. Within weeks, she began stealing from her employer through unauthorized purchases, cash withdrawals, cash deposit thefts, and inflating her own pay.
The scheme went on for nearly 10 months before investigators uncovered it on September 22, 2025. By that point, Clark had taken more than $191,000.
On top of the theft, Clark submitted a fraudulent letter to her employer-sponsored insurance company. The letter was used to add a significant other as a beneficiary to her health insurance policy.
Wicomico County State's Attorney Jamie Dykes spoke directly about what crimes like this do to a community.
"When an employee abuses their authority to systematically steal from an employer, they don't just take money from that business, they fracture the trust that holds our community together," Dykes said. "This plea reflects the severity of that betrayal and sends a clear message that white-collar theft will be aggressively prosecuted in Wicomico County."
State's Attorney Dykes recognized the work of several people involved in the case. She praised Salisbury Police Department Detective Glynn for the investigation. She also credited Certified Fraud Examiner Dana Peterson of the Wicomico County State's Attorney's Office for her work alongside law enforcement. Senior Assistant State's Attorney Lauren Bourdon was also recognized for her efforts in prosecuting the case.
