Police K-9 Teams Sharpen Skills at Winterplace Park

Wicomico County, MD - Police K-9 teams from several agencies recently spent two days training at Winterplace Park. The training was made possible through a partnership between Wicomico County and Delmarva K9 LLC.

The county and Delmarva K9 LLC have a Memorandum of Understanding, also called an MOU. Under this agreement, the county lets the group use county property, like Winterplace Park, for police K-9 training.

The partnership is an ongoing one. County Executive Julie Giordano is keeping it going so police departments around the region have a place to keep their dogs and handlers well trained.

Delmarva K9 LLC recently thanked Giordano in public for letting the group use the park. The two days of training helped the teams keep their skills sharp and stay ready for the job.

K-9 teams from several agencies took part. They came from the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, Somerset County Sheriff's Office, Princess Anne Police Department, Chestertown Police Department, Morningside Police Department, Fruitland Police Department, Denton Police Department, and NASA.

Giordano said the county was glad to help.

"We could not be happier to support Delmarva K9 LLC and the law enforcement agencies that rely on this important training," said County Executive Julie Giordano. "Our MOU allows us to put county facilities to good use in support of public safety-not just here in Wicomico County, but across the entire Eastern Shore. These K-9 teams perform critical work, and we are proud to help ensure they have opportunities to keep their skills sharp."

She also spoke about the value of agencies working together.

"Public safety is a shared responsibility, and strong partnerships between law enforcement agencies make our communities safer," Giordano added. "When we can share resources and support the professionals who protect our residents, it is a win for the entire Eastern Shore. We appreciate Delmarva K9 LLC and every officer and handler who dedicates their time to keeping these teams prepared."

Wicomico County says it will keep supporting teamwork across the region. The county says it is committed to using its resources wisely and backing the people who serve and protect local communities.
