Queen Anne's County, MD - A Queen Anne woman was arrested last Sunday after a traffic stop revealed she had a loaded handgun inside her purse.

The incident happened on May 24, 2026, at around 5:49 p.m. DFC Johnson was patrolling westbound on Route 404 near Route 309 in the town of Queen Anne when he spotted a vehicle drifting between lanes without using a turn signal.

Johnson pulled alongside the vehicle and saw the driver holding a cell phone while driving. He then initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Crystal Workman.

During the investigation, Workman told officers she had a loaded handgun in her purse. A probable cause search was conducted, and the handgun was recovered and secured.

Workman was placed under arrest and charged with multiple offenses.

The charges against Workman include Handgun in Vehicle, Loaded Handgun in Vehicle, Failure to Drive Vehicle on Right Half of Roadway When Required, Driver Failure to Obey Properly Placed Traffic Control Device Instructions, and Driver Using Hands to Use Handheld Telephone While Motor Vehicle is in Motion.

This case is a reminder that even routine traffic stops can uncover serious safety concerns. Distracted driving continues to be a leading cause of traffic incidents on Maryland roads, and carrying an unlicensed handgun in a vehicle carries serious legal consequences in the state.
