Queen Anne's County, MD - A traffic stop that turned into a late-night chase across two counties ended with one man facing multiple charges, according to police.

The incident started just before midnight on June 21, 2026, when Queen Anne's County dispatch put out a lookout for a vehicle that had fled a traffic stop with the Easton Police Department. The car was last seen heading westbound on Route 50 into Queen Anne's County at a high rate of speed.

A short time later, law enforcement responded to a crash on Route 50 near the Route 301 merge. The vehicle involved matched the earlier description. When DFC Colburn arrived, he saw three people grabbing items from the car and running across the Outlets parking lot.

A brief foot chase followed, and DFC Colburn was able to detain all three. One of them told police a fourth person had actually been driving and had run off on foot. A records check on the vehicle showed it had been stopped earlier that night in Worcester County, with Jebre Hilton behind the wheel.

K9 Splash was brought in to scan the vehicle and gave a positive alert. Inside, deputies found empty alcohol containers and cannabis, along with a Zaxby's cup. Nearby, on the grassy shoulder, they also found a Zaxby's bag that looked like it had been set down rather than tossed, possibly left behind by the missing driver.

Deputies used a recent MVA photo of Hilton to help with the search and started a K9 track. The track covered almost two miles before deputies called it off for the night.

Hours later, around 3:48 a.m., Sgt. Patchett was patrolling near Route 301 and Outlet Center Drive when he spotted a man matching Hilton's description walking along the grassy median.

After a couple of tries to turn around, Sgt. Patchett made contact and identified the man as Hilton.

The man first gave the name "Jerry" and said he was visiting family. Eventually, Hilton admitted who he really was and that he'd been cited earlier that night. He let Sgt. Patchett look through his backpack for those citations, and that's when a bag of cannabis turned up.

Because of Hilton's age, deputies searched the bag further and found containers of a white rock-like substance and baggies of a white powdery substance, both suspected controlled substances. A Zaxby's receipt on him matched the items found earlier.

Hilton was arrested and charged with the following:

  • CDS Possession - Not Cannabis (x2)
  • CDS Possession Paraphernalia (x2)
  • Fraud - Personal Identification to Avoid Prosecution
  • Walking Along a Controlled Access Highway
  • Civil Citation - Cannabis Personal Use Amount
